Kari Hjelmeset

2024 Newman Family Scholarship Recipient

As an International Studies major in the “Politics and Policy in the Global Economy” track along with pursuing certificates in History and Languages & Cultures of Northern Europe, my academic journey has been less of a narrowly focused perspective on a specific discipline, but rather a multifaceted exploration of global challenges and ways of understanding how different societies approach them. My experiences being raised multi-culturally; studying abroad in Norway, South Korea, and Denmark; as well as being a part of the Wisconsin International Scholars (WISc) program have been the driving factors of my particular interest in global issues. Thanks to the Newman family scholarship, I hope to continue exploring my academic and professional interests like climate diplomacy, sustainable development, and language learning!
