2026 Newman Scholarship Recipient

Grace Lytton

My name is Grace Lytton, and I am a sophomore majoring in International Studies on the Political Economy and Policy track, with a certificate in History. Alongside international studies, some of my academic interests include legal studies and environmental justice. Additionally, I am passionate about traveling, learning new languages, and literature.

Last summer, I had the privilege of participating in a UW Signature Internship in Komenda, Ghana, as an Early Education Intern. The experience taught me a great deal about cross-cultural cooperation and educational institutions abroad. Furthermore, it educated me on the legacy of colonization in the country and inspired me to continue learning about the historical actors that influence present-day institutions abroad.

This summer, I will be participating in a Political Studies Fellowship Program at the Hudson Institute in D.C., and I am excited to bring the perspective I gained from my time abroad and my classes at UW–Madison as I continue to deepen my understanding of international issues and American foreign policy.

I am deeply grateful to the Newman Family for their continued support of women in the International Studies major, and I am committed to carrying forward their values of supporting diverse perspectives and cultures wherever my academic and professional path leads me.
