Amelia Bazzett-Jones
2026 Newman Scholarship Recipient
My name is Amelia Bazett-Jones, and I am a rising junior majoring in International Studies (Culture in the age of Globalization) and Theatre and Drama with a certificate in Arts and Teaching. The international studies major initially drew me due to its interdisciplinary course work, and how I could truly choose my own path within the major. The most rewarding aspect of the International Studies major is how applicable the coursework is to all areas and interests of my life. Through the coursework, I have had the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of global representation within the arts, and it’s an area I am passionate about learning more about. Through the major, I have learned the importance of viewing things through a different lens than my own and gaining greater global perspectives in all areas of learning.
This past summer, I had the opportunity to be a summer intern at Camp Daniel; a camp for individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Through the International Studies major, I was able to view that experience differently than I would otherwise, recognizing the role of women, as well as global patterns and relationships within the disability community.
This upcoming summer I will be studying abroad in Costa Rica, hoping to be able to gain more fluency and proficiency in Spanish, as well as experience and learn more about Costa Rican culture!
I would lastly like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Newman Family for supporting women in International Studies. Being awarded this scholarship is such an honor, and I am beyond grateful for the support to continue exploring my academic and professional interests within International Studies!
