Joely Emerson

2025 Newman Family Scholarship Honorable Mention

My name is Joely Emerson and I’m a sophomore originally from Minneapolis, MN. Both academically and professionally, my interests are geared toward everything international. As a dedicated student of Political Science, International Studies, and French, I have long been interested in foreign policy. My combination of academic pursuits offers an interdisciplinary background in global political and economic processes. Outside of the classroom, significant involvement in Wisconsin International Scholars, Badger Consulting, and student radio have supported the development of my communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, my current remote internship with EducationUSA Sub-Saharan Africa has been a valuable skill and interest-building experience, exposing me to career opportunities within international education, development, and public diplomacy. I look forward to exploring these possibilities further on the Wisconsin in Washington Summer Internship Program and in studying abroad next spring at the University of Copenhagen, for which I’ve received the generous support of the Brittingham Viking Organization.
