Zoe O'Halloran

2023 Newman Family Scholarship Honorable Mention

My name is Zoe O’Halloran, and I am a rising senior majoring in International Studies (Global Security) with certificates in Global Health and Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Area Studies. While coming into this major my freshman year I did not have a clear focus, but throughout fascinating courses and extremely knowledgeable professors, I have been able to focus on a specific area of interest. Forced migration and refugee studies is an area I am extremely interested in, which has been supported through classes offered at UW, such as Southeast Asian Refugees of the Cold War, as well as opportunities I have experienced while studying abroad in Paris. After graduation, I plan to continue exploring this area of study through grad school and/or joining the Peace Corps! I am extremely grateful to UW and especially, the Newman Family!
